A Clinical Study of Anorectal Abscess


Abstract
This is a report of 44 cases of anorectal abscess, which were treated at S. N. U. H. from March 1970 to August 1974.
The results were as follows.
1. The sex ratio was 3.4: 1, of male preponderance. And the disease was evenly distributed from 3rd to 6th decade, prevalent from 4th to 6th decade in male and 3rd decade in female.
2. The onset before admission was mostly within 6 to 10 days and 77.4% of all patients were admitted within 20 days after onset.
3. There was no seasonal variation of occurrence.
4. By Eisenhammer¢¥s classification of the anorectal abscess, low intermuscular abscess was 68:2% of all high intermuscular abscess was 18.2%, ischiorectal, abscess was 9:1%, others were 4.5%. And the predilection site of the abscess was in order of posterior, right, left, anterior quadrant.
5. The most prevalent range of body temperature at admission was that of normal and 57% of all the patient showed normal to mild leukocytosis.
6. E. Coli was cultured in 66.7% of whom pus culture was done.
7. Commonly combined anal diseases were hemorrhoids, anal fistula and anal fissure.
8. Ninety percent of all were taken incision and drainage and 29.4% of patients were taken
concomitant operations.
